Purple Wings for the Purple Martin Fesitval

I covered the Purple Martin Festival in Richmond for Nori Magazine, since it was so close to my home meaning I could walk over, sigh with boredom, and come home. I did it mostly because it sounded lame as hell and I'd even read that the birds don't even come to Shockoe Bottom anymore so... a festival to celebrate birds that aren't even there. I know, it's hard to hold the laughter back.

I took this as an opportunity to tie the festival into my makeup for the day. I knew I wanted to do somehting with purple because, well, that's obvious. But then it was like... what's better than just purple for the Purple Martin bird festival? Purple winged makeup.

Unfortunately, I'm not cool enough to own purple liquid eyeliner but I am cool enough to own several shades of bright purple eye shadow and and angled brush so it was like a match made in heaven.

I used several matte shades from my trusty NYX Nude on Nude palette (seriously, buy this thing already) for the base and then used Hollywood from my BH Cosmetics California Eye Shadow Sample palette and the purple color from the L'Oreal High Intensity Pigments duo in Flamboyant to do the wing. I didn't wet the eye shadow so the color isn't as bright as it could be but the two colors are still fairly well pigmented so i felt as if the colors were bright enough on their own. Then I tight-lined the outer half of my upper lash line with an NYX black eyeliner pencil, curled my lashes and used Covergirl's Clump Crusher mascara.

The color is a bit bold for everyday wear but I think it's a nice break from my usually very bold and thick black liquid eyeliner.

Have you ever used eye shadow for liner? How did it go for you?

A Sunday Smokey Eye

I've been in a super cranky mood the past few days so this blog post will be short and sweet because I'm not even in the mood to talk about anything.

Here's the smokey eye I did. Don't care if you say it's not technically a smokey eye. See this face? Don't care.

I'm not wearing falsies because after the 4,000th attempt, half of my eyeliner that I had carefully applied had come off so I threw them back in my makeup box and told them to go fuck themselves. I really showed them. (I didn't really...) The eyelash glue is also why my eyelashes look a bit like black widow spider legs. Whoops.

I also didn't touch up my foundation or do a good job on my eye brows because I'm cranky. Take it as you will.

Products used:

NYX Nude on Nude Palette - several shades (Seriously, buy this palette. It's amaze. You will not regret your purchase. And if you do, you can send it to me.)
BH Cosmetics California Sampler - San Francisco
Elf Liquid Eyeliner (my faves)
Covergirl Clump Crusher in Very Black
Elf Eyebrow Kit - sloppily smeared across one's eyebrows

Here's to a less cranky tomorrow. But tomorrow's Monday, so I make no promises.

July 2013 Ipsy Glam Bag

All right. Let's get this straight. I love Ipsy. My monthly Ipsy Glam Bag is something I really look forward to and cannot wait to open each month. I lust over the sneak peaks on Facebook and I obsessively track it once I get the always exciting "Your Ipsy Bag Has Shipped" email.

It's cool. I'm a freak. No big deal. I already know. I have a problem.

I was particularly excited about this bag because 1. The cosmetic bag this month is freaking awesome and I'll actually use it. 2. LIP CRAYON. I love lip crayons and always have the intention of getting more. (Then I buy eye shadow instead.)

I actually received my bag on Friday so I had all weekend to play with my new products. (Of course I only got to play with a couple since I was kind of busy goofing off and visiting my family but still...)

Here's what I got:

1. Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Beach Spray (love this so far)
2. Derma e Microdermabrasion Scrub (have not tried yet but really looking forward to this one... working on my skincare routine)
3. BH Cosmetics California Collection eyeshadow sample palette (YESYESYES!!!)
4. Cool Mineral Sunscreen (going to be great for whenever I make it down to the beach)
5. Pop Beauty Pouty Pop Crayon in Coral Crush (such a fun color but a bit bright)

I'm pretty excited to try all of these products and to play more with my new lip crayon and eye shadows (my favorites!) I'm also really curious to try out the Microdermabrasion scrub.

Bonus photo of me wearing my new lip crayon. I applied an Instagram filter so it's a little off in color (look what it did to my hair color!) but I'm a horribly vain person that has to include selfies in my blogs posts.
